Todas as lendárias performances de Frank Zappa & the Mothers em junho de 1971 no Fillmore East, em Nova York, será lançada em um enorme novo conjunto de 8 CDs intitulado “The Mothers 1971“.
Com lançamento marcado para 18 de março via Zappa Records/UMe, a coleção apresenta notavelmente o encore jam de Zappa em 6 de junho de 1971 no Fillmore com John Lennon e Yoko Ono. Foi produzido por Ahmet Zappa e pelo arquivista de Zappa Joe Travers.
“The Mothers 1971” também contém o infame show de Zappa em 10 de dezembro de 1971 no Rainbow Theatre em Londres, durante o qual, após uma versão de “I Want To Hold Your Hand” dos Beatles, o maestro fora atacado por um fã enlouquecido, sofrendo ferimentos graves que o deixaram cadeirante por quase um ano.
Em 1971, Zappa selecionou apressadamente a melhor das performances de Fillmore para o álbum ao vivo, Fillmore East – June 1971. Esse álbum também está na caixa “The Mothers 1971“, remixado e remasterizado separadamente para uma reedição de 3 LPs deluxe.
O set do Rainbow Theatre de 12/10/1971 também recebeu uma reedição separada em vinil deluxe de 3 LPs, com uma nova mixagem e encarte de Eddie Kramer.
A apresentação do Rainbow Theatre seria a última a apresentar a formação do Mark II Mothers, com Ian Underwood nos sopros e teclados, Aynsley Dunbar na bateria, Jim Pons no baixo, Bob Harris nos teclados e backing vocals, e Howard Kaylan e Mark Volman (aka Flo & Eddie of The Turtles) nos vocais/diálogos.
Também incluído em “The Mothers 1971” está o single “Tears Began To Fall/Junier Mintz Boogie“, e uma espécie de “concerto híbrido” inédito, selecionado das apresentações da banda em 1º e 3 de junho de 1971 em Scranton e Harrisburg, Pensilvânia.
A caixa também vem com um livreto de 68 páginas com uma entrevista em profundidade com Underwood (conduzida por Ahmet Zappa), além de notas de Kramer e Pons, encarte fita por fita de Travers e fotos de Henry Diltz.
